As the Sound Engineer for the summer season, I was tasked with designing and installing a sound system that could be used by three different productions in rep. Working with both designers, we used the pre-existing inventory of equipment to design a system that prioritized the best experience for the audiences, regardless of the seat they sat in. The full system consisted of a series of mains (left, right, center), delays (of the main left and right speakers), and a handful of surround and practical speakers to immerse the audience into the action happening on stage. Two of the three performances also called for at least one actor to be mic-ed, whether it was for a vocal effect on the Ghost in Hamlet, or for vocals of Oberon and Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In addition to the wireless mics, there were a group of 4 floor mics onstage that also helped support the projection of the actors onstage. The floor mics were used in a configuration similar to a mix-minus send, where the sends to the speakers would change depending on its relation to the microphone positioning (i.e: the microphone on stage left wouldn't feed the speaker on stage left, would feed the center speaker some, and the stage right speaker more). I was also in charge of the upkeep and operation of the gear from night to night, and was the one on call if anything went wrong during all rehearsals and performances throughout the summer season.
